Challenge Coin Plating Options for OEM Programs

Plating changes how a challenge coin reads under light and how it ages in the pocket. For OEM programs, lock plating early with your artwork so samples match production.

Common OEM plating finishes

  • Bright gold / silver / nickel / chrome — clean corporate and military looks
  • Antique gold / antique silver / antique copper — recessed detail pops; popular on crest coins
  • Gunmetal / black nickel — modern or tactical programs
  • Dual plating — selective gold/silver zones on one coin (higher process cost)

How plating works with enamel

Plating usually happens before enamel fill. Antique finishes sit in recesses; bright plating sits on high surfaces. Soft or hard enamel then adds brand colors. Tell us which areas must stay metal-only.
